Twin Lakes

On the way home from camping in Salida, we stopped off at Twin Lakes near Leadville to play on the beach.  We had fun throwing sticks for the doggies and making sand forts.  Davis wore his helmet from the campsite, to the ice cream shop in Buenva Vista, to Twin Lakes, and then all the way home.  He is a very safe toddler!

Camping

We packed up our camper and headed to Salida for some mountain biking this past weekend.  The Pooles, Murrays, and MacFarlanes joined us.  Our campsite, while not the most scenic, had some neat features, most notably the irrigation ditch that ran through the campsite.  It was about 12 inches deep and provided a lot of entertainment for the kids and cool rehreshment for the doggies.

On Saturday morning there was a ducky race down the ditch and the winners took home candy bars.

Super Diamond

Mommy is a big fan of Super Diamond, a Neil Diamond tribute band, and they played at the Ford Ampitheater this week.  Lilly has seen Super Diamond 7 times with mommy!  That's a pretty big deal seeing as how she is only 5 years old.  This was Davis' first Super Diamond concert, and he was also an instant fan.  You see the hip swagger in the first picture, and as soon as Forever in Blue Jeans came on, the whole Place family rushed the stag.

Trip to Oklahoma

We just got back from a quick trip to Oklahoma to visit Grandma Kelly. The kids were indulged with good quality grandma time! The weather was incredibly hot, like 102-106 by noon each day, so we spent time trying to come up with some various activities to keep us cool.
Playing on Grandma Kelly's Harley while cleaning out the garage one morning.  Not an especially  'cool' activity, but thinking about the breeze while cruising on a motorcycle helped.
Playing at the park in Marlow one morning before it got too hot.  It was probably already 95 degrees!
Playing with Aunt Jennifer's Bryer horse collection and old dolls was especially fun for Lilly.  She would play with those dolls and horses for long periods of time.  Well, at least until her little brother would find her and destroy her scenes in pure Godzilla fashion.
First thing in the morning the kids would head outside to the back yard and play in the birdbath.  It was a nice way to cool off, splash around, and have some fun.
Davis watering the plants with rainwater collected in large jugs by the side of the house.  The kids felt very useful!
Davis and Lilly would take the pebbles out of the birdbath and arrange them in different patterns on the patio table.  Another fun and cool activity.

Oklahoma Family

Our trip to Oklahoma was quick, but we were so fortunate to be able to spend quality time with each other and with many family members.  One night we had dinner with Uncle Keith and Aunt Cindy, Grandma Linda, and the Browers: Wes, Monica, Sarah, and Elizabeth.  Our other days and nights were spent just enjoying time with Grandma Kelly.

Uncle Wes was tossing Davis up in the air (not an easy job tossing a 37 pound toddler in the air).  Davis was in fits of giggles and would keep saying, "Adain...adain," over and over.  Thanks Uncle Wes.  Hope your back is alright!
Jasper is primarily an outdoor cat that tends to dislike bothersome little boys, but Davis didn't mind and decided to become Jasper's Best Friend while in OK.   Davis looked past the low growls, swatting paws, and evil looks that came from Jasper and continued to seek him out at any given opportunity.  Here is Davis supervising Jasper's dinnertime.

Lilly is such a great big sister.  Here she is making sure Davis sticks with the group while heading back home after feeding the goats.

Fee da doats!

The kids favorite thing to do in Oklahoma was feed the goats.  Grandma Kelly lives next door to a large herd of goats, so she saves her kitchen scraps to feed the goats.  Lilly and Davis loved this daily adventure to feed the goats and would talk about it until it actually happened.  On the way back to Colorado, Davis had just woken up from an afternoon nap during a long car drive and began stammering half asleep, "Fee da doats, fee da doats."  The first picture even shows Grandma Linda helping out with our favorite chore.
